Fifth: The food and drink of the one who makes supplication must be from lawful sources, for unlawful earnings are among the greatest barriers to the acceptance of supplication. This is established in the hadith of Abū Hurayrah, in which the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
“A man prolongs his journey, dishevelled and dusty, stretching his hands toward the sky, saying, ‘O Lord, O Lord,’ while his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful, and he has been nourished with what is unlawful. So how can he be answered?”
